I’ve been having a lot of sleep issues, and while it sucks and wreaks havoc on my system, it’s really good for my Goodreads challenge total.

I’ve passed my initial total of 200 books, and I’m headed quickly towards my edited total of 350.

I’ll give you the low-down on a few of my favorite recent reads.

Sci-Fi/Fantasy

Lexicon by Max Barry – Amazing. Such a high-concept book, yet easily accessible. I gave it five stars on Goodreads, but I thought there was a very small flaw in the book. There was a tacked-on epilogue that could’ve been left off, and if it had been, I think the book would’ve been better. The material was such that it didn’t require the type of ending included in the epilogue, and I’m not going to elaborate more than that.

Durotan by Christie Golden – As far as I’m concerned, Christie can do no wrong with a Warcraft novelization. She wrote Thrall, Arthas, and War Crimes. Durotan is the lead-in for the Warcraft movie, and even though I’m already familiar with the lore in this story, the book goes much further in depth than has already been described in-game. Ms. Golden is incredibly true to the source material, and relays it in a compelling and touching manner. Even if you’re not a gamer, if you like the genre, this story is great and there’s a good chance you’d enjoy it.

Romance

Mister O by Lauren Blakely – This is a spin-off of a book I also loved, Big Rock. Lauren writes books that make me laugh all the way through. They’re also quite steamy. This also hit a trope that I love, the hands-off sister of the best friend. Great all the way through.

 

Everywhere and Every Way by Jennifer Probst – I was so thrilled to see that she was starting a new series, “Billionaire Builders”, that I put this on my TBR pile as soon as it came into my field of vision. The series is off to a fantastic start, and I can’t wait to see the rest of the crew get their own stories. I see that the other two Pierce brothers are getting books, and I’m hoping that their architect, Brady, might be highlighted as well.

The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L. Armentrout – This book blew me away. Yes, it’s labeled a “teen” book, yes, it’s angsty, but is it worth it? YES. Labels mean NOTHING! This book had so much heart, and if a person can’t feel something while reading it, they’re a monster*.  The pain, the attachment, the bravery to face a whole new life – it emanated from every page.

 

 

*Monster in the sense that they have no feelings and cannot deal. I. CANNOT. EVEN.
